![]() And while the existence of a cave bear cult is controversial today I will still count it as correct since it is at least based on actual findings. The way the Mogur places the bones in the movie to make a death curse corresponds with the way one skull was found in that cave. There several skulls of cave bears were found to have been stored in stone crates in the floor. The theory that Neanderthals worshipped cave bears is based on findings from the Drachenloch cave in Switzerland. The movie (and book) actually has a very good representation of Neanderthals and finally gets rid of a lot of negative stereotypes by showing that they had indeed a very complex culture. It does have a weird tinge it just looks like the color saturation was turned up unnaturally. And while I really liked the make-up and also the performances I don’t like the overall look of this movie. ![]() Additionally the movie feels very anticlimactic and somewhat flat (contrary to the book) it just feels like it is stuck in one location for two hours. I remember there where several scenes that just confused me. ![]() And I have to say it is really confusing if you don’t know the source material. I actually saw the movie before I read the book (and recently re-watched it since I wanted to know if me now having read the book changes something). Storyline: A young Homo sapiens girl is separated from her tribe after an earthquake and is found and raised by a clan of Neanderthals. So we have already reached the Aurignacien (Upper Paleolithic). Setting: The movie takes place 35.000 years ago in Crimea. ![]() If you want to hear my thoughts on the book I will probably make a separate entry for that later. I have read the book, I love the book and I will mention the book but it will not affect what I have to say about the movie.
